Granite Worktops - Frequently asked questions

Home

Q: What is the difference between your ‘Bespoke Service’ and your ‘Cut on Site Service?

A: Our Bespoke service is designed for customers with the more elaborate work top requirements.  With this service templates are generally a must, which means that you will need two visits form the fitters, one to do the templates and one to fit the worktops.  The Cut on Site (COS) service is for those customers who do not need templates as their requirements are more straightforward and two or three straight runs of granite will match their plans.  If necessary Island pieces and polished cut outs for under-mount sinks with drainers can be incorporated with the COS service (Please see the COS details and the paragraph headed up ‘extras).

Q: Can I select any colour?

A: Yes, material is available for your custom order.  Please click on ’Granite Samples’ to see the full range of colours available.

Q: What if I have 1 worktop deeper than the others?

A: This is not a problem. Our Standard Widths are 600mm & 630mm, but we have widths up to 1200mm Wide!! Ask our sales staff for details.

Q: What areas do you cover?

A: We use 7 teams of qualified fitters that can cover from the south coast through to Inverness. Delivery charges vary depending on the distance.

Q: My walls are not very straight, what can you do?

A: Our customer enquiries team will advise you on whether or not you require a full template and fit service, or our cut on site range. Sometimes rebating the walls in places is required, and sometimes we will need to scribe the back of the granite edge. We recommend that you purchase up-stands to cover any gaps. Only £31 linear meter, to nearest full lengths supplied only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are up-stands? And how much are they?

A:  Up-stands are strips of 20mm x 100mm/110mm granite strips that sit on top of the worktops. These really finish of your kitchen and give it a great look. They cost from only £21 per running meter, polished and fitted.

Q: How do I look after my granite after it is fitted?

A: Granite is very hard wearing and requires little maintenance. We do however strongly recommend that you seal your granite to help avoid staining. We offer a Lithofin care kit, which comes with a sealant and a wax and a cleaning solution. This comes with full instructions and is only £22.50

Q: What is the difference between an under-mount sink and inset sink?

A: Inset sink sits on top of your granite and generally come with their own draining area.  Under-mount sinks are fixed to the underside of the granite, requiring a polished cut out in the granite, and can come with polished drainer grooves (photo left). This has to be done at our factory on one of our CNC  machines. An upgrade is available when ordering with our COS service, please ask our sales team.

Q:  Can I buy my sink and taps from you?

A: Yes, we are an agent for Franke sinks and can get you a 15% discount on them when you buy our granite, please click on link www.franke.co.uk  for the full range of sinks and taps

Q: What is the normal procedure once I order from you?

A: All we need to know is what colour, how many lengths you require, what widths, and what type of sink cut outs are required. It is preferred If you can send a drawing fax / email showing dimensions as below:

  • Indicate if cut outs are Polished or Un-Polished,

  • If Drainer Groves are required and also Tap Holes.

  • Red Line indicates Up Stands Required.

  • Make Sure that the sink and Hob cut outs are centred in your base carcasses

  • We will require sink&hob cut-out measurements to evaluate whether strengthening bars are required

  • All measurements to be in metric please

Q: I have only my base carcass units in, how do I measure these?

A: If you allow 40mm overhang on the front edge (where the doors are) and 20mm for a overhang on the end, if it is not butted up to a wall.

Q: What if I cannot provide this information?

A: If necessary, we can do a site survey for you, but there is a £80 local charge for this. This can be booked in with our sales staff.

Q: What extra costs may there be?

A: If you go to our cut on site range, all of the costs are explained.

Q: How do I order?

A: After you have discussed your needs with our sales staff and agreed our quote and terms and condition, they will take a 30% deposit, and arrange a date for one of our fitting teams to come and install your worktops.
